History San José (HSJ) invites 10 high school teachers to apply to its pilot summer teacher institute, July 20th-22nd, 2021. Join teachers from across the region to engage with History San José’s collection, learn instructional tools, and exchange in dialogue about Santa Clara County’s heritage. This year’s inaugural theme will center on housing and community in the Santa Clara Valley.
During the institute, educators will deepen their understanding of how different neighborhoods developed throughout the region and the ways in which communities have struggled and thrived. Teachers will get to examine artifacts, historic sites, and documents, reflecting on their significance, workshopping potential instructional ideas, and gathering best practices from one another. In the end, they will leave the institute with new resources and skill sets that they can implement in their classrooms.
The institute will run from July 20th-22nd, 2021 and offers teachers a $200 stipend for their time and energy plus a one-year Historian-level membership to History San José. History San José encourages all high school teachers in the arts, humanities, and social sciences to apply.
Applications are due April 2nd, 2021.

"Thank you so much for taking the time to speak to our class about the rich Chinese American history present here in San Jose. Many of the students did not know that these buildings were here, much less the history, and it was very eye-opening to learn."
