Did you know that approximately 20,000 Chinese American men and women served in all U.S. service branches in all World War II (WWII) theatres of conflict – 25% of the Chinese population at that time, but only 40% were actually U.S. citizens because of the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act? And yet, was it fair for a U.S. government to require them to go to war and possibly lose their lives while denying them full rights even though they may have lived in America for many decades?
To investigate this question, a film production team of adults and 14 teens from CHCP’s Student Docent and Cultural Ambassador Program (SDCAP) collaborated with Bay Area Chinese American WWII veterans who served in the war in the Pacific. As a result, their stories are featured in a documentary film: “Our Story of War and Remembrance: Chinese American WWII Veterans of the China-Burma-India Theatre.“
The Chinese Historical and Cultural Project (CHCP) invites you to a webinar screening of this film to be held online via Zoom, on December 13, 2020 at 1:30 pm. The screening will be followed by a Q & A session.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

Support this WWII Project with your Donation
A goal of this CHCP project is to produce and distribute the documentary film with accompanying teacher curriculum guide to all U.S. History teachers of Santa Clara County. You can partner with CHCP’s WWII film and curriculum project so students in U.S. History classes will know of these honorable Chinese American WWII Veterans. A donation of any size will help preserve the WWII stories for current and future generations. A donation of $500 or more will list you as a SPONSOR. All donations will be listed in the film’s credits. To have your name appear in the film’s credits: call or email SDCAP Chair Brenda Hee Wong by Dec. 8: brenda.wong@chcp.org, (408) 946-4015
There are two ways to donate:
