San Jose and World War One: A Centennial Exhibition @ MLK Library

CHCP has partnered with San Jose State University’s (SJSU) History Department and MLK Library for this local exhibit commemorating the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I (WWI).

At this exhibit, posters, maps and artifacts explain and commemorate the First World War, focusing on its impact on San Jose and the surrounding area.  Although Santa Clara County was far from the battlegrounds of Europe, the war affected virtually everyone living here.  While thousands joined the military and thousands more died, an anti-war movement also existed.  The war spawned music, poetry, prose and film, and it changed American life forever. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

CAHM’s Chinese American War Heroes Exhibit

Note: WWI Veteran Lau Sing Kee is featured as part of the Chinese American War Heroes Exhibit at CHCP’s Chinese American Historical Museum (CAHM), and is also one of the featured veterans at this SJSU exhibit, as this SJSU exhibit has an emphasis on veterans from Santa Clara Valley.

Hear Dr. Karen English of the Humanities Department present “A Tribute to American Poetry of the Great War” and view the exhibition in the Second Floor Art Gallery. The San Jose State University Air Force ROTC’s Precision Drill Unit will present the colors. Refreshments will be provided. Admission is free and open to the public.
